Library Services
Maseno University Library was established in 1990 following the creation of Maseno University College as a constituent college of Moi University. It inherited the entire collections of its predecessor institutions, Siriba Teachers College and Government Training Institute libraries, and initially focused on consolidating resources around the core course requirements of the University College.
As the university expanded its academic programs and student population grew, the demand for additional space for readers and staff became inevitable. This led to the establishment of specialized libraries, including the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Library for postgraduate students and the Resource Centre Library for undergraduates. Further expansion saw the creation of additional libraries, such as Kisumu Campus Library, Odera Akang’o Campus Library, School of Law Library, and eCampus Libraries, each catering to the diverse academic needs of various schools, departments, and campuses.
In 2018, the university consolidated all its libraries—including College Campus, Science, Resource Centre, and Postgraduate libraries—under one roof in the Main Library. This move aimed to enhance service delivery, optimize resource utilization, and ensure efficiency in staff deployment for the benefit of users. The new building accommodates approximately 3,000 readers and provides ample office space for library staff.
Additionally, the security and safety of students, staff, and library resources remain a top priority. Several security measures, such as the Biometric Identity System and an Anti-Theft Detection System, have been implemented to safeguard the institution’s information materials and users.
